Alice aux Pays des Merveilles

It has been my favourite tale ever since I was a little boy. The classic story based on the book of Lewis Carroll, whose inhability to communicate with adults indulged him in writting this type of books, reflects the whims of a little girl and the harsh reality, always under a fantasy ground. Some people hate this tale and it has been said that the only way to understand it is to be under the effects of Marihuana. That is a lot of nonsense! I never smoke weed and I understand it completely. Alice in Wonderland is clearly a very dramatic and aesthetically rich story. It has loads of characters and each one of them is more eccentric than the other. It has plenty of British customs and manners, like a tea party or criquet, but it has always a twist. The Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts are the most memorable characters of the book, but we cannot forget the White Rabbit and its obsession with punctuality (very English I must say) that scratches a compulsive and annoying behaviour! If this is not enough Walt Disney made an animated movie back in 1951, proving that cartoons are not only for children. Annie Leibovitz focused on, with the help of Grace Coddington, a winter wonderland story for the December issue of American Vogue, where Natalia Vodianova embodied the perfect Alice and Christian Lacroix, Donatella Versace, Marc Jacobs, Olivier Theyskens, Karl Lagerfeld or Nicolas Ghesquiere were invited to play tribute to such a great timeless story. If to all the above you add that Gwen Stefani debuted her solo carrer with a video(What you are waiting for) inspired by the book, or that Robbie Williams use a segment of the book Through the looking mirror for his latest video, mixing Playboy bunnies with carrots and dapper rabbits, then you understand that a classic can be updated thanks to Pop music. The cherry on top of the cake, Tim Burton made its own version with the help of Walt Disney Studios of the classic. Until it hits cinemas next year, I leave you with this post and I wish you all a Happy and Whimsycal 2010!
